A Greek-owned cargo ship sailing under a Liberian flag was attacked on Sunday off the coast of Yemen in Houthi Attack in the Red Sea.
According to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO), the bulk carrier Magic Seas was sailing southwest of Yemen's port city of Hodeidah when it came under fire from eight small boats armed with light weapons and rocket-propelled grenades. The vessel’s private security team responded, managing to repel the initial assault.
However, the situation escalated as four unmanned surface vehicles (USVs) reportedly struck the ship in succession, causing a fire on board and forcing the crew to abandon the vessel.
The sailors were later rescued by a passing merchant ship. No casualties were reported.
The Magic Seas was en route from Zhuhai, China to the Suez Canal when the incident occurred. The ship remains adrift and is believed to be taking on water.
