Taiz — Health authorities in Yemen’s Taiz governorate have reported 86 new cases of acute diarrhea and suspected cholera infections within just two days, raising alarm over deteriorating sanitation conditions and the urgent need for medical intervention.
The cases were recorded across several districts, including Al-Mudhaffar, Al-Qahira, and Salh, where overcrowded neighborhoods and limited access to clean water have heightened the risk of disease outbreaks.
Local health officials warned that the number could rise further if immediate containment measures are not implemented.
Medical teams have been dispatched to affected areas to provide rehydration therapy and conduct field assessments, while public health campaigns are underway to raise awareness about hygiene practices and water safety.
A spokesperson from the Taiz Health Office stated:
“The situation is concerning. We are working with partners to contain the spread and ensure timely treatment, but resources are stretched.”
The outbreak comes amid ongoing conflict and infrastructure collapse in Yemen, which has left millions vulnerable to preventable diseases. International health organizations have repeatedly called for increased support to restore water systems and bolster disease surveillance in high-risk zones.
