Aden – A senior Hamas official has dismissed renewed international efforts to broker a ceasefire in Gaza, declaring that “there is no talk now” of halting hostilities as Israeli forces intensify their military campaign across the besieged enclave.
The statement comes amid mounting civilian casualties and widespread destruction, with Israeli airstrikes targeting densely populated areas in Gaza City, Rafah, and Khan Younis. According to Gaza’s civil defense, dozens were killed in overnight raids, including children and displaced families sheltering in schools and tents.
Hamas political bureau member Basem Naim accused Israel of waging a “hunger war” and “extermination campaign,” citing the ongoing blockade and mass displacement of Gaza’s 2.3 million residents.
“There is no sense in engaging in talks or considering new ceasefire proposals as long as the hunger war and extermination war continue,” Naim told AFP.
The rejection comes despite a new U.S.-backed ceasefire proposal that includes the release of hostages and a temporary halt to fighting. While some Hamas sources previously signaled openness to negotiations, the latest developments suggest a hardening stance in response to Israel’s expanded military plans.
Qatar and Egypt, key mediators in the conflict, continue to push for de-escalation, but prospects for a truce remain bleak as both sides brace for further escalation.
