Paris — The Eiffel Tower was illuminated late Sunday night with the flags of Palestine and Israel, separated by a glowing dove of peace.

The projection coincided with France’s historic move to formally recognize the State of Palestine at the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

The display, organized by Paris city officials, featured the Palestinian and Israeli flags side by side, with the dove and olive branch symbolizing hope for a two-state solution.

Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo affirmed the city's commitment to peace, stating, “Paris reaffirms its commitment to peace, which more than ever requires a two-state solution”.

This symbolic illumination comes amid heightened political debate in France, where over 20 town halls defied government orders and raised the Palestinian flag in solidarity with the recognition effort. Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau had warned against such displays, citing the principle of neutrality in public service.

France’s recognition of Palestine marks a pivotal moment in international diplomacy, with several other nations expected to follow suit. The Eiffel Tower’s luminous tribute served not only as a beacon of hope but also as a visual reminder of the urgent need for peaceful resolution in the Middle East.
