Yemen's Houthi militia rebels have declared a "maritime blockade" on Israel's Haifa port in response to Israel's ongoing military operations in Gaza.
The militian's spokesperson, Yahya Saree, announced that all ships present in or heading to Haifa are now considered potential targets.
The Houthis have been launching missile attacks on Israel, including strikes near Ben Gurion Airport, claiming solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza. While most of these missiles have been intercepted, Israel has retaliated with airstrikes, including one on May 6 that damaged Yemen's main airport in Sanaa.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed to take control of Gaza, prompting international leaders from Britain, Canada, and France to threaten sanctions against Israel if it does not halt its offensive and lift aid restrictions. The humanitarian crisis in Gaza continues to escalate, with experts warning of a looming famine.
