The U.S. Department of Justice announced on Tuesday that it has filed a civil forfeiture lawsuit seeking nearly $2 million in cryptocurrency allegedly used to finance Hamas and other terrorist organizations.
According to the DOJ statement, the targeted funds are held in accounts associated with Tether Limited and Binance Holdings Limited, and are linked to Bayt Al-Mal Company for Money Transfers, a financial services firm based in Gaza. Authorities believe the company, along with one of its owners, Ahmad Al-Khud, is involved in providing direct financial support to Hamas, as well as to other designated terrorist groups including ISIS and Al-Qaeda.
U.S. Attorney Pam Bondi emphasized that this move demonstrates the Justice Department’s ongoing commitment to combat terrorism financing. “This action underscores that the United States will continue to target financial networks enabling terrorist operations, especially those exploiting cryptocurrency platforms,” Bondi stated.
The lawsuit is part of broader U.S. efforts to track illicit financial flows, particularly through digital currencies, which are increasingly used by armed groups to circumvent international banking regulations.
