Yemen: Faces Critical Phase Amid Rising Security Concerns in Red Sea

Mokha — Yemen is entering a highly sensitive stage as political and military developments accelerate, raising mounting warnings over the resurgence of terrorist threats in the Red Sea.
Analysts and officials fear that the Houthi movement and extremist groups could exploit the current security vacuum and divisions within the internationally recognized government’s camp.
Mohammed Anam, Head of Media at the Political Bureau of the National Resistance, cautioned against the consequences of “changing the compass away from the Houthi threat,” stressing that such a shift would directly impact international maritime security in the Red Sea and Bab al‑Mandab Strait.
Speaking from Mokha, near Bab al‑Mandab, Anam warned that “any security vacuum resulting from this shift will have dangerous repercussions for regional security in general, and for navigation in the Red Sea and the strait in particular.”
He added that Houthi militias are already capitalizing on the current state of confusion, pointing to visible mobilizations along Yemen’s western coast and in the Marib frontlines. According to Anam, these moves are part of broader efforts to seize control of oil resources and the Bab al‑Mandab chokepoint.
Anam described the developments as “part of a wider Iranian strategy aimed at threatening the security of the Arabian Peninsula and vital maritime corridors.”
The warnings come as international attention remains focused on safeguarding global trade routes through the Red Sea, a waterway increasingly vulnerable to instability amid Yemen’s protracted conflict.
