The White House has given its Lincoln Bathroom a new look, President Donald Trump announced Friday, marking the latest renovation in the administration’s push to remodel the historic building.
The bathroom, which used to feature art deco-style green tiling, is now covered in sprawling black and white marble with gold faucets and hooks, according to photos Trump posted to Truth Social.
“This was very appropriate for the time of Abraham Lincoln and, in fact, could be the marble that was originally there!” Trump quipped in one post.
“Highly polished, Statuary marble!” he continued in a separate post.
The president has long had his sights on the historic Lincoln Bathroom, telling NBC News earlier this year that he planned to replace the “terribly” remodeled bathroom with a different style he felt aligned more with Abraham Lincoln’s era.
The White House did not immediately return a request for comment.
The bathroom marks the latest of Trump’s architectural changes to the Pennsylvania Avenue mansion since his return to office. Last week, construction crews demolished the White House’s East Wing to make way for a new ballroom that the president has lauded as a key expansion for the property.
The demolition of the East Wing sparked outragefrom conservation groups and lawmakers who warned the construction would scrap pieces of the building’s history and lacked oversight from outside organizations. The White House earlier this week fired the fine arts commission that would advise construction on the ballroom expansion.
A majority of Americans oppose Trump’s demolition of the East Wing to make way for the ballroom, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News-Ipsos poll.
