The Israeli military carried out new airstrikes on the Gaza Strip following the return of three bodies by Hamas that were later confirmed not to belong to any of the Israeli hostages.
According to Israeli sources, the bodies were transferred through the International Committee of the Red Cross. After forensic examination, Israeli authorities stated that the remains did not match any of the hostages still held in Gaza.
In response, Israeli warplanes launched several airstrikes targeting areas in Gaza, including Khan Younis and parts of Gaza City. Local health officials reported casualties and damage to civilian infrastructure.
The incident has raised tensions and cast doubt on the fragile ceasefire efforts. Hamas stated that the handover was made in good faith, while Israeli officials accused the group of violating previous understandings.
Humanitarian organizations have expressed concern over the renewed escalation, warning of worsening conditions for civilians in Gaza.
